How to Choose the Right B.Tech Program? November 7, 2022

Introduction to B.Tech

Bachelor of Technology (BTech) is a 4-year technical undergraduate degree designed for engineering aspirants. It is one of the most popular courses in India, with lakhs of admissions every year. The course covers various aspects of engineering studies and is the best way to enter the field of engineering and become a high-skilled white-collar worker in India.

The eight-semester program is split into two sections. In the first year, all students learn the basics of engineering academics. From the second year, students must study the subjects from their choice of stream. The choice of the stream can be confusing. But there are proven ways through which you can make the right decision about it. Before we delve into how you can make the right choice, first let's take a glance over what each stream entails:

How To Choose the Right B.Tech Program

There are various factors that come into play when landing on a B.Tech program from TOMS College. From the subjects to the job roles. It is better to have a vision of your future and understand which stream fits the best for you.

Here are some of the parameters to make your judgement with

Future aspirations:

There are many ways in which your career can move. Do you want to become a software engineer with a desk job? If yes, then you need to pursue B Tech in computer science engineering. Do you want to design buildings? Then civil engineering is the right path for you. Do you want to explore the world of aerospace engineering? Each stream of engineering charts a brand new path for you.

Choice of college:

Do you have a dream college in mind? Where do you want to study? Out of all the B.Tech courses, which college offers the best education? If you do have a list of colleges, which are the streams available for you in that college? Many colleges have different streams that are taught better and have more resources than others. Pursuing the best stream from your college of choice can be a great start to your college. The Right B Tech Program is highly dependent upon your choice of colleges. You can consider TOMS College of Engineering as your B Tech college.

Interest in the area of study:

What was your favourite subject to study in school? Was it maths, chemistry, or physics? If it was maths, you can build upon your interest with streams like computer science, electronics and communications, and civil engineering. If it was physics, you’d be better suited in streams such as aerospace engineering and automobile engineering. Lastly, it was chemistry, you’d do better with a degree in biochemical engineering or chemical engineering.

Future study plans:

If you think that B.Tech will be your final education, then you need to be very serious about the stream and choose something that launches your career right after graduation. If you wish to pursue a master's in either management or your primary stream, then you can go with any of the streams such as computer engineering and build your career.

Salary expectations:

There is a huge income disparity among all streams of engineering, and you should consider that while going through the B Tech courses list. Software and computer engineers' average starting salary ranges from INR 4 LPA to INR 6 LPA. Aerospace engineers enter a very different job market and their average starting salary ranges from INR 6 LPA to INR 12 LPA. The numbers differ for other careers such as B.Tech in Chemical Engineering or Biochemical Engineering. There's a vast difference, and you can land on the stream by deciding which income slab you wish to fall into.
